Training for Leaders

How can we recruit and retain more youth in Scouting?

As leaders, we design and deliver an age appropriate, fun, exciting and challenging youth program!

Scouter

Our kids are can spot and will follow a motivated, experienced and confident leader. All you need are some skills and experience.

Usng a combination of orientation sessions, mentorship (we team a new leader with an experienced Scouter), and courses, Scouts Canada provides you with the opportunity to become an extraordinary leader.

If you want to reduce your stress level and enjoy your time as a Scouter, make the effort to learn and practise what you'll be teaching our kids.

There is no limit to what you can learn! Outdoor camping techniques, crafts, games, and leadership training are only a few of the valuable skills you'll gain as a parent volunteer or leader.

  • Leader Orientation - 1-2 hours (Section Scouter/Group Commissioner). Provides an introductory briefing on what is expected of a new leader. This is an opportunity to map out the required training for the next 12 to 18 months.

  • Woodbadge One woggle
  • Woodbadge One (Basic) - 2 days (Council) Provides one day of "Core" training on administration, management, leadership and risk management; and one day of "Section" specific activities training. There is a "Section" day for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers and Rovers. As Scouters move from one Section to a higher lever Section, they take the "Section" level training only (the "Core" day does not have to be repeated).

  • Gilwell necker and beads
  • Woodbadge Two (Advanced) - 5 days (Council) Provides five days of advanced training on administration, management, leadership, and section outdoor skills.

  • Group Committee Training - 2 days (Council) provides training to Group Committee staff.

  • Standard First Aid - 2 days (Group) either St. Johns Ambulance or Red Cross standard first aid and CPR.

  • Wilderness First Aid - 3 days (Group) 3 days of first aid training in the wilderness. The focus is on supporting life and transporting casualties when medical help is not immediately available and conditions are extreme.

  • Dish It Outdoors - 1 day (Council) get a day of cooking food for large groups in the outdoors.

  • Outdoors Basic Skills - 1 day (Council) for new leaders who need an introduction to outdoor camping and safety skills.

  • Cold Weather Camping - 1 day (Council) for any leader who is planning to run safe outdoor activities in winter conditions.

  • Pelletry Rangemaster - 1 day (Council) for any leader who wishes to become certified as a Range Master for the Council Pelletry Range.

  • Archery Certification - 3 evenings (Council) for any leader who wishes to become certified as a Range Master for the Council Archery Range.

  • Climbing Wall Certification - 2 days (Council) for any leader who wishes to become certified to supervise the Coucnil climbing wall
