Beaver Winter Games 2008
The Beaver Winter Games, held March 1st at Larose Park in St. Albert, were an overwhelming success. Approximately 70 Beavers, and 30 leaders/parent helpers, turned out to enjoy an afternoon of curling, snow shoeing, fishing, snow golf, potato cannons, and Beaver ice carving.
The weather cooperated, with the sun shining, and our Beavers were able to undertake challenging events that tested their skills and showed youth and adults how to have fun in the snow.
The last Beaver Winter Games were held in 2000, and I'm certain everyone who attended agreed this event should become an annual part of Beaver winter activities in our Buffalo Plains Area.

Cub Campfire
This year, Scouter Gerhard, our Akela, wanted to start off the cub year for the Monday Falcon Cub Pack, from the 2nd St. Albert Scout Group, with a fun outdoor activity.
On Monday night, Sept 24th, the cubs, tenderpads, parents, scouters and guests gathered in Lions Park. Cubs were given a glimpse into this year's plan for badge work, then they were divided into groups to play soccer or tag.
Once the fire was ready, each cub was given a weiner to roast over the fire and a drink of hot chocolate. Parents and leaders took the opportunity to catch up on what everyone did throughout the summer break and check to see where we needed parents volunteers for the coming year.
We ended the night with a grand howl, putting out the fire and ensuring that everyone got home safely.

Leduc Beaveree 2007
Each year, Scouter Angele Issler and her team host the Council Beaveree, a one-day event that sees Beavers, parents and leaders from Northern Lights Council gather in Leduc for a day of fun.
On Saturday, May 26th, Beavers, leaders and parents from the Tuesday and Wednesday Beaver colonies of 2nd St. Albert Scout Group travelled to Leduc for "Council Beaveree 2007".
If you have never seen 400+ Beavers gathered in one place at one time, you would get overwhelmed! It was an unbelievable experience.

Building Beaver Buggies
On April 4th, 2007, the Wednesday night Beaver colony of the 2nd St. Albert Scout Group took the evening to build Beaver Buggies.
One of the key features of the Beaver program is to let Beavers create things ... we call it crafts. Most regular meetings include a small craft that the youngster can take home to proudly display to Mom and Dad.
Recently, a similar kit became available at the Scout Shop for Beavers. Beaver Buggie kits include a set of plastic wheels that are set into a wood base. The youngsters also get a wood cutout of a beaver which they can decorate any way they want.

Cubs Gone Fishing
On Sunday afternoon, June 3rd, 2007, about a dozen cubs plus their parents nd siblings gathered to go fishing at the Morinville trout pond (just west of Morinville). The pond had been recently stocked and they were hoping to see some serious action.
For many of our youngsters, it was their first time fishing, so Mom's and Dad's were busy baiting hooks, teaching "how to cast" and untangling crossed lines.
"Cubs Gone Fishing" was organized as part of the "Keeping in Touch" summer program run by the Monday Cub Pack of 2nd St. Albert Scout Group. "Keeping in Touch" activities gave the cubs a chance to try their hands at some cub badge work, receive earned badges and awards, and keep in touch with their cub friends.
