Baden-Powell Torch Parade 2008

For the first time in many years, scouting and guiding youth and leaders gathered for a torch parade and camp fire to celebrate our founder's birthday.

On Wednesday, February 20th, about 180 or more Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Sparks, Brownies, Guides, leaders and parents from from Morinville, St. Albert, Edmonton, and other communities gathered at the Knights of Columbus Hall parking lot in Morinville.

The March

After being organized and provided lights, we walked from the parking lot, around the block, down the main streets of Morinville and ended in the parking area behind the Catholic parish. Scouter Rick from the Morinville Cub Pack lit our camp fire and then the various sections sang songs and yelled out cheers. We heard "Ging Gang Gooley", "Kumbya My Lord", "Quartermaster Store" and the "Repeat After Me Song".

Our thanks must go to Group Commissioner Bob Bachand from Morinville for organizing this event, to the parent volunteers who organized the hot chocolate and cookies after the march, and to the local Knights of Columbus for the use of their hall where we enjoyed our hot chocolate and cookies.

We are looking forward to an even bigger gathering next year ... until then enjoy the remainder of our 100th Anniversary Year of Scouting and Guiding world wide.

So you're a Section photographer, a leader or parent who is good with a camera and would like to provide pictures for our photo gallery! If you are, please contact us so we can provide you with the instructions on how to make it happen.
