How to Contribute to this Website

So you want to be a writer

We welcome any contribution to this website. We have three types of submissions that you can provide:

• a photo gallery article tells the story of an activity your Section or Group conducted and includes a collection of photographic files; or
• a news or announcement article is a short anouncement of an upcoming activity or a short informative article. This type of submission includes one graphic/photo file and can include links to other documents like .pdf or .zip files.
• a Group webpage for your Scout Group. In this case, read our article on creating a Group webpage or send our webmaster an email.

You can write your article in Microsoft Word, Open Office Writer, Wordpad, and any common text editor. Do not worry about the final format, we will take care of that for you. If you are using Microsoft Word or OpenOffice, you can paste the pictures and links to files directly in the document. If you want us to host additional .pdf or .zip files, include them in the attachment. If you are using a text editor, please identify:

• pictures as [PIC:pic1.jpg] or [PIC:pic1.gif];
• files as [FILE:filename.pdf] or [FILE:filename.zip]; and
• URL links as [LINK:http://www.mycompany.com/desired-page.html].

We ask that you observe some simple rules and guidelines:

• You can write in the first person or third person (your choice). We are looking for informative and fun news articles 100 to 500 words in length (or longer if you feel so inclined). Check out Leader Magazine or Photo Gallery or News for 2007-08 for examples of content ideas.
  
• Please observe our Privacy Policy.
  
• Please observe the Scouts Canada Website Style Guide.
  
• Be sure that you are accurate if you quote someone.
  
• Always ensure that you have permission to use graphics if they are not yours.
  
• If you use photographs, ensure that anyone who is in the picture has agreed to using the photo in an article on our website.
• If you provide a quote from someone, or a photograph of one or more people, then please include the contact information (email addresses and phone numbers) so we can ask for permission to publish the content to our website.

How to submit

Write your article, and place the document file, and all graphic files in a folder and .zip it. Please contact our Area Webmaster to ask for instructions on how to email him your submission.
